Joerg Below

I was born in 1966 as the fourth child of two church musicians and grew up living in Hamburg. Even when I was very young there was always a lot of singing and music making going on in my family. As a talented violin student I contributed music to church services on a regular basis but also performed as the concertmaster of the school orchestra and as a soloist. After finishing the civilian service I studied with Volker Worlitzsch in Detmold for two years and became first violinist of the Michaelis quartet founded there. Together, we went on to study as visiting musicians with the Amadeus quartet in Cologne. Afterwards I finished my own studies with Johannes Prelle in Wuppertal.

Accompanied by the university orchestra there I performed the solo parts in Brahms' op. 77 and Bartok's second violin concerto. In Wuppertal I also served as permanent concertmaster and regular soloist of the Philharmonisches Orchester Wuppertal directed by Thomas Honickel. In the Kids Klassik series put together there we created many concert productions for children as well.

After the orchestra's dissolution and the birth of my two sons I shifted the focus of my work from giving concerts to teaching. At present, more than 20 violinists come to my home to receive lessons and I work as a violin teacher at the Michael Bauer Schule in Stuttgart.
